In the present work, we have investigated the effect of neutronirradiation on the pinning and transport properties of melt-texturedSmBaCuO samples. It was observed that the critical current density isstrongly enhanced both at low and high temperatures (50 K and 77 K) andmagnetic fields up to 5 T. The enhancement is larger at low temperaturescompared to high temperatures. This difference is discussed in terms ofthe defect structure. Our investigations on YBCO superconductors alsoshow a similar behavior. But the critical current density enhancement withneutron irradiation is smaller in this system compared to SmBaCuOsystem. Possible reasons for this difference are also discussed.
