In bottom-fermenting yeasts, a Lg-FLO1 gene is believed to play an important role in the yeast flocculation. However the flocculation property is thought to be unstable, and the mechanism of conversion from flocculation to non-flocculation is not clearly understood. Previously, we showed that, in many cases, changes in the Lg-FLO1 gene were responsible for the flocculation loss. In this article, we indicate that translocation of the left telomeric region in chr. IX to the Lg-FLO1 coding region in chr. VIII (Lg) might lead to conversion of the flocculent to non-flocculent cells.
