At the crux of the long-term care industry rest the Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) who provide the greater part of daily care for facility residents, but whose field falls victim to alarmingly high rates of turnover. This paper discusses perceptions of sources of job satisfaction and dissatisfaction, barriers to effective job performance, and other factors related to quality of care in long-term care facilities. Results regarding training, feedback, trust, job security, and work environment have implications for managers facing high turnover rates of certified nursing assistants, which ultimately affect the quality of care received by facility residents.
