On January 5, 1998, the United States began a bold and humane experiment to make the world safer for workers and communities. On that day the doors opened at the temporary headquarters of the newly created U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board, (now commonly known as the chemical Safety Board or CSB).
