Due to superior efficiency, emissions, economic, and operation flexibility, natural gasfired combined cycle power plants have become the leading means of generatingelectrical power in the US and Europe. This has increased the demand on natural gasresources significantly in the past decade.The increase in consumption of natural gas in the US has resulted in an increase in theLiquefied Natural Gas (LNG) imports. According to the US Department of Energy(DOE) report, the LNG imports in the US increased by 250 percent between 1998 and2000. It is expected that the LNG imports will increase from 1.3 percent of the USconsumption to 3 percent by the year 2008.The current outlook for the LNG consumption creates opportunities for LNG chillutilization within a combined cycle power plant in order to improve the plantperformance and economics especially during the hot ambient conditions. This paperreviews various means of integrating LNG chill with a gas fired combined cycle plant.The economic benefits of LNG chill recovery in terms of delta capital cost will also bepresented in this paper.
