This paper presents the development of the Escape, Evacuation and Rescue (EER) systems for platforms to be installed off the north east coast of Sakhalin Island in the far east of Russia (north of Japan) and is part of the development programme as undertaken by Sakhalin Energy Investment Company (SEIC) to-date. These reviews covered the challenges and solutions foreseen along with available systems for EER under Arctic conditions specific to the platform design, location and configuration. Together with AMEC, the SEIC conceptual and detailed design contractor, SEIC have identified and evaluated various EER systems for a range of ice conditions as well as open water. In the absence of a single EER system solution to support year around operations, the different EER systems that will be adopted in winter and summer are described including the progress of EER research, joint industry projects (JIPs) and further work required.
