The onsite presentation at the conference reviews the progress made in the recent years in the area of modeling of quenching and distortion. Critical issues that are challenging the research and development community and the heat treating industry are also summarized and highlighted at the conference. This article presents integrated physical-based models for the simulation and analysis of heat transfer, microstructure evolution, and mechanical stress and distortion in quenching process. Preliminary results of integrated analysis on the platform of commercial FEA code ABAQUS are presented in this article. The needs for the acquisition of accurate thermal physical material properties and international collaborations are emphasized.
