Effects of intra and extra-granular polycarbophil (PCP) and carbopol 934P (CP) in various amounts on the release rate of progesterone from mucoadhesive vaginal tablets were studied. Tablets containing intra-granular PCP or CP released the drug faster than those with extra-granular polymer. There are no significant differences in dissolution rate of drug between the various amounts of PCP or CP (2% versus 5%).
