Modeling the fate of metal lons during brown stock washing with bleach filtrate recycle

This paper presents computer simulation results of brownstock washing using bleach plant filtrate, and its effects on calcium and manganese buildup. The authors used experimental adsorption data and an aqueous-based process simulator to compute the metal partitioning between pulp fibers and solution in a two-stage drum washer process. The simulator accounted for the distribution of metals between soluble inorganic species. soluble organometal complexes, metals adsorbed on fibers, and inorganic precipitates. The simulation results were compared to observed data.
