摘要

The purpose of this study is to investigate the boundary effect on the growth of a 3-D crack under uniaxiai compression. The distance from the center of flaw to the free boundary (D) is varied from D/c=1 .5 to 3.5, where c is the half flaw length. The larger value of D/c, the higher the stress for flaw initiation is required. However for the D/c greater than a certain value (say D/c≥3), the stress of flaw initiation is kept constant. Furthermore as for the same D/c, the thicker the specimens, the higher the stress of flaw initiation is required. Growth faster when the flaw tip close to the side boundary (say D/c≤1 .5).
