FCC rules permitting License Free (i.e. no-permit, no-fee) spread spectrum operations indesignated (ISM) bands have resulted in a variety of products and applications. As the interest inthese “over the counter” type wireless products grows, so do the questions and concerns overwhat level of performance that can reasonably be expected. This paper discusses some thesystems level concerns and scenarios that can be anticipated and experienced in the un-regulatedand non-coordinated ISM frequency bands.
