A spectral response measurement system has been designed for illumination with very intense monochromatic light, and monochromatic light levels exceeding 63 mW have been obtained at a spectral bandwith of ca. 15 nm. This corresponds to a photocurrent generated only by the monochromatic light that exceeds 70 mA for a typical silicon solar cell. For a 2cm × 2cm solar cell, this corresponds to a (monochromatic) irradiance of ca. 0.5 suns, for a 1cm × 1cm solar cell, it corresponds to 2 suns. Such a high power spectral response measurement system can alsobe used for the illumination of cells with long time constants that can not be measured under chopped monochromatic light, as well as for measurements of very large area solar cell (e.g. 20 cm2 * 20 cm2 ) and concentrator cells.
