The paper addresses some issues for the fabrication of nanosized metallo-organic structures. Gold Nanocluster molecules having a core diameter of 3 nm have been synthesized and assembled into an ultrathin metallo-organic film by Langmuir-Blodgett technique. The conformational properties of films obtained onto mica have been investigated by means of atomic force microscopy and by transmission electron microscopy. This study shows that regular 2-D structures are present when species tend to be locally mono-disperse. In order to prepare substrates capable to graft the embedded nanocrystals, self-assembled monolayers of benzenedimetanethiol onto flat <111> gold terraces have been prepared and characterized by scanning probe microscopy.
