Dynamic testing of full-scale buildings of different types using locally manufactured powerfulvibration machines started in Armenia in 1989. Since then 10 buildings have been tested,among which a 16-story building was tested in the City of Yerevan and nine other buildingsof different stories (from 1 to 9) in the northern part of Armenia, affected by the 1988 SpitakEarthquake. In order to reveal the effectiveness of different approaches for seismic riskmitigation there was a need to test newly constructed buildings as well as conventionallystrengthened buildings and the existing buildings with different systems of seismic protection.
