A finite element model updating methodology is developed as a useful tool for monitoringthe condition and assessing the integrity of bridges by utilizing vibration measurements fromvarious loading events (e.g. Earthquake, wind and traffic). The model updating methodologyis based on the availability of an incomplete set of modal frequencies and modeshapescomponents at the measured locations. The modal estimates are obtained from vibrationmeasurements using modal identification techniques applicable to the cases of both measured(e.g. Earthquake) and unmeasured (e.g. Wind and traffic) excitations. The methodology isapplied to a cable-stayed bridge located on Evripos channel (Greece). The modal propertiesof the bridge are obtained using real measured acceleration data from earthquake and wind /service load events. The performance of the proposed methodology for condition monitoringand damage detection is also assessed using simulated "noisy" vibration data from the bridge.
