Providing against a power failure, a photovoltaic power generation system as a back-up system for the optical network unit has been developed. As an effective design tool, we have utilized the computational simulator to predict the PV system performance. In the simulator, we describe the characteristics of the system components, e.g., a PV array, a storage battery, and a power controller using approximate expressions, and combine them with the system losses into a circuit equation. In this paper, a novel modeling of the battery charging-discharging characteristic is proposed for high computational accuracy. Some numerical results that demonstrate the validity of the proposed modeling are also reported.
