EASY CONSTRUCTION AND TEST OF A DIELECTRIC-SINGLE MIRROR TWO STAGE CONCENTRATOR

The 30x DSMTS is a trough-like photovoltaic concentrator, meant to track the sun in one axis, whose mirrors allocate two concentration stages. Thanks to an additional secondary lens, this device achieves an acceptance angle so wide +-2.3° to be compared with angle subtended by the sun, +-0.265°) that we can be very imprecise at its manufacture. For instance, we noticed that a mirror attained from an aluminum sheet, appropriately cut, bent and framed, could perform quite accurately. Encouraged by this fact, we proceeded with the manufacture of two elastic prototypes. In the tests that have been performed so far with them we achieved a striking acceptance angle of +-1.63°, a collection efficiency (at normal incidence) of 98% at a geometrical concentration of 30x, and an optical efficiency (relative to flat panel) of 88.4%.
