In multiuser communication, the receiver's performance is degraded by multiple access interference (MAI). In this paper, we propose a low complexity multiuser detection (MUD) scheme that can greatly reduce the MAI at the receiver. Our multiuser detector is based on coordinating the users in the system by employing a transmitter precoding strategy for each user. This precoding is derived from a Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) on the entire multiple access channel matrix. The resulting receiver is simple and free of MAI since the precoding assists in uncoupling the users into separate single user detection problems. The SVD-MUD receiver is evaluated in a synchronous CDMA fading and non-fading channel.
