The effect of strengthening of CFRP sheets having an opening by applying other CFRP sheets was investigated by tests and analysis. In this study, the following results were found: (1) No strengthening effect is observed when strengthening only in the direction parallel to the fibers. (2) A strengthening effect is obtained by applying both longitudinal and transverse sheets on the base sheet. However, in consideration of the stress concentration, it is necessary that a longitudinal strengthening sheet be larger than needed just to compensate for the loss in the cross-sectional area of the base sheet. (3) Insufficient strengthening lengths do not produce the intended strengthening effects.
