A series of Ni /sepiolite methanation Catalysts containing samarium were prepared by impregnation. The activities of catalysts for carbon monoxide methanation were investigated. The effect of samarium on Ni /sepiolite was studies by the heat resistance, CS_2 poison, XPS, XRD and chemisorption of CO, respectively. The result showed that the addition of samarium could increase CO methanation activity, heat stability, anti-poison capacity, the number of active sites of Ni /sepiolite and dis-persity of nickel. At the same time, it also decreased the binding energy of nickel.
