摘要

The authors have already reported on the application of multivariate analysis of orientation data to the analysis of linear discontinuity surface profiles in order to determine roughness. This technique allows us to investigate two important properties of roughness parameters: scale dependency and directionality. In this paper, as an important extension to linear profile analysis, in-plane analysis of roughness is presented. By means of sampling equilateral triangular arrangements of points on a surface it has been found possible to determine anisotropy of surface roughness. In addition, the concept of scale effect in roughness anisotropy has been investigated. This sampling technique and associated analysis allows us to investigate anisotropy of surface roughness in a new way.
