The microstructural evolution during superplastic deformation was examined in a coarse-grained Fe_3Al alloy. A structure refinement was observed, the grain size in the fractured sample (ε=1.26) was about 50 μm compared to the initial size of 150 μm. Detailed microstructural examinations indicated that dynamic recrystallization by grain boundary bulging and grain subdivision by deformation induced dislocation boundaries occurred during deformation. Both processes are considered to contribute to the observed structure refinement.
