DEVELOPMENT OF HYSOL~R EA 9296, A TWO-PART LOW VOC WATERBORNE PRIMER FOR THE 121°C (250℉) AEROSPACE METAL BOND MARKET

Development of a low VOC waterborne adhesive primer Hysol EA 9296 is described in this paper. This corrosion inhibiting adhesive primer is designed to meet both the environmental restraints being imposed on the aerospace industry, and the latest 121? (250℉) service requirements of aircraft OEM's and subcontractors. The primer has been specifically formulated as a companion primer to Hysol EA 9696 a 121°C (250℉) service metal bond adhesive film. The new primer provides long-term metal corrosion protection and durability when used as a 121°C (250℉) adhesive system. This paper describes the advantages of the primer such as long term ambient storage stability and low VOC emission and presents the Hysol EA 9696/EA 9296 adhesive system mechanical property performance from -55°C (-67℉) to 121°C (250℉) against an industry standard solvent-based primer and metal bond film adhesive.
