THE EFFECT OF ERP IMPLEMENTATION ON KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT PRACTICES

As organizations move knowledge management to a strategic priority, and [domestic] ERP implementations near a 20% level, with a 30% predicted growth rate by 2001, past studies of knowledge management in conjunction with ERP have looked at the codification and transfer problems of knowledge. This paper explores knowledge management in organizations, by means of a case study. The paper examines explicit and tacit knowledge, focusing on observing the effect[s] of ERP upon explicit and tacit knowledge management in the context of strong-tie or weak-tie networks. The theory used is based upon social network theory and attempts to extend past work on the subject.
