To run a power plant as efficient and as reliable as possible, it is imperative that the plant?s assets areoperating at peak performance. It is known that maintenance costs have a considerable effect on theoverall profitability of an energy producing station. The tools to manage a plant?s assets and determinehow they are operating in real-time are needed to help reduce these costs. The architecture to improveplant performance by keeping installed devices in the field operating at peak performance levels forlonger periods of time is here today. The ability to integrate key information on a plant?s assets such ascontrol valves and transmitters is the backbone of these hardware and software platforms.This presentation will cover the new enabling technologies and setup of how this architecture integratesinformation to a single location. Along with the discussion of these tools, there will be specificexamples of applications within the power industry where these platforms have shown considerablequantifiable cost savings to energy producers. Some of these examples which will be supported by casehistories include reduced capital requirements, reduced maintenance costs, reduced process variabilityand increased process availability.
