Visualization of three-dimensional (3D) objects has enormous applications in many fields, particularly in science, from medical imaging, geographic modeling, sculptural arts, archaeology, to robotics. It is also called volume visualization, involving rendering 3D data into some form of computerized 3D representation. In this paper we present a method for visualization of real three-dimensional objects. The 3D object surface data are measured using laser triangulation. The visual images of the object from any viewpoint with a certain illumination can be obtained by calculation based on an object illumination model. A simple graphic user interface is provided for the user to select several parameters for the viewing of the object, including viewpoint and size.
