摘要

Line discharge class of Metal Oxide (MO) surge arresters is one of their basic technical parameters. The class characterizes the ability of MO surge arresters to dissipate energy. This parameter is defined in [1] in terms of absorbed specific energy curves for IEC discharge classes. Typically, five line discharge classes are considered. A new approach that would simplify overall process of line discharge class selections is proposed in this paper. The proposed procedure is described in details and demonstrated using a real example of 220kV/200 km overhead line.
