A Multiparadigm Programming Method in Database Systems

摘要

Because of limited expressive power of query languages, embedded SQL is often used for database application programming. Embedded SQL intertwines SQL statements with statements of general purpose languages and is complicated, time-consuming, and error prone. In this paper, a multiparadigm programming method is proposed which partitions a database application program into modules such that each module is written purely in one language. Program examples are given and compared with embedded SQL. This method is elegant, easy to learn, and natural in programming logic. It also increases declara-tiveness of application programs, improves productivity of application programmers, reduces potential programming errors, and improves error handling.
