Evaluating Network Performance of Course-On-Demand Systems

摘要

A course-on-demand (COD) system provides on-line courses through networks by use of video-on-demand (VOD) technology. In categorization, COD systems are classified as asynchronous network learning systems. Although COD can not achieve real-time interaction between teachers and students, it satisfies the need of all-day service and is therefore suitable for distance learning. Besides, students can choose appropriate courses and control their learning speeds according to individual interest and ability. This paper investigates the relative technologies of COD, including the hardware and software structures, production and compression of COD programs, and evaluation of its network performance.
