ANALYSIS AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A PRE-DEFINED QoS SPECIFICATION METHODOLOGY FOR VoD SYSTEMS

Now, distributed multimedia applications on ATM networks, such as: video on demand, distance learning, teleconferencing, etc; have QoS (Quality of Service) requirements that are declared by an user during the specification phase. Thus, it is desirable that QoS specification occurs in an interactive way, without forwarding uncommon and tedious technical aspects to the clients. Therefore, the goal of this paper is to present and to characterize a pre-defined specification method, which it was implemented as part of a QoS management framework to MPEG-2/VoD multimedia applications on ATM networks. The obtained conclusions intend to show the acceptable operation of the developed tool for this study, as well as to indicate the main advantages, disadvantages, difficulties and challenges imposed by the pre-defined selection methodology of QoS requirements.
