For the purpose of improving the load range and NOx emission level of lignite firedpower plants, the new combustion technology called NR-LE burners (NOx Reduction -Load Extension), which apply high temperature philosophy has been developed inco-operation between Babcock-Hitachi and Fortum. A single burner combustion test wasperformed in Japan with this new NR-LE type burner by using Czech lignite. Adaptingthe Flame Stabilization Ring and special Additional Air nozzle, resulted in successfulstable flame, which enables:1. Burner minimum load: less than 50 % (Boiler load : 30?40%)2. Low NOx emission: less than 200 mg/m3N (6 % O2, dry base)The first commercial full scale application of NR-LE burner was implemented to the IPPpower producer in Czech Republic, Sokolovská Uhelná, a.s. at Vresová Unit2. Aftercommissioning test runs in October 2001,the boiler is now in commercial operation withthe successful results of 30% minimum load and lower NOx emission.
