We established a Capacity Performance Council (CPC) in 1999 to prepare for an Enterprise-Wide Capacity Plan as well as provide capacity information for new I/T projects. Using a "Virtual Team" approach, we soon found the task too broad to be handled by a single group. This paper details how we Divided and Conquered the two-fold task of Capacity Planning, namely monitoring/measuring the infrastructure you have in place, and estimating the impact of new workloads on that infrastructure.
