The results presented here are examples and show the trend of the results of a more extensive investigation. It has been shown that the arrangement of the six-coil system carrying typical currents does not induce sufficient flux density distribution, at the surface of the part, to provide valid magnetic particle inspection, when compared with the traditional single coil system. The advantage of the single coil system is that the part may be placed in the center of the coil while the part lies between two coils in the six coil apparatus.
