The absorption of ink oils (mineral oil, vegetable oil and triglyceride) into the coating of various substrates after offset printing has been studied by chemical analysis. A vegetable-oil ink and a mineral-oil ink were used in combination with two coated fine papers and one coated board. The absorption was fast during the first minutes and continued for many hours but at a lower rate. The initial absorption increased in the order triglyceride
