A method for measuring yarn density of fabric by the frequency spectrum is suggested in the paper. The fabric image is obtained by a digital camera or a scanner first, then it is transformed into its frequency spectrum using FFT. By analyzing the frequency spectrum we can get the yarn density of fabric. Experiment results have shown that the method has the advantages of high speed, accuracy and automation.
