Severance of Polycarbonate and Acrylic Transparencies using LinearShaped Charge

Ensign-Bickford Aerospace and Defense Company (EBA&D) is presentlyworking on transparency removalsystems using tin alloy and aluminumsheathed linear shaped charges (LSC).Test data of penetration performance fortin alloy and aluminum linear shapedcharges against typical canopy materialsis compared. Testing has also beencompleted in which the sound generatedby linear shaped charge detonations wasmeasured. Methods of sound attenuationare identified. In addition, scaling lawsare available to estimate both penetrationperformance and sound generation as afunction of the charge weight. EBA&Dwork has been extended to a theoreticaland empirical understanding of debrispatterns.
