St. Lawrence Plant has 32 units installed on an international dam that extends betweenU.S.A and Canada. The units operate under low head between 22 to 27 m. The unitconfiguration does not fit any testing methodology except the velocity area methodusing the Current-Meters in the unit intake. Turbine performance testing for the St.Lawrence plant was carried out by the Velocity Area Method using the Intake CurrentMeters.A calibration program was developed to determine the effect of the current-metersupportingframe on the flow measurement to ensure the flow measurement accuracy.The calibration program was designed to determine the effect of the frame blockage onthe flow measurement and the effect of the supporting frame proximity on the flowmeasurement. The calibration program also studied the effect of meter proximity toother meters in the horizontal and vertical positions and meter proximity to the walls andthe effect of oblique flow.This presentation will describe the calibration program, the results and the conclusionsfrom that calibration program.
