In the process of establishment of the socialist market economic system in China, Anshan Iron & Steel Group Corporation run into an unprecedented difficult situation in 1995, faced with dying if its old equipment is not renovated and with courting its own ruin if its old equipment is renovated. The Corporation devoted major efforts to reform, re-organization, renovation and management improvement of plants, focusing on adjustment and optimization of its product mix and technological process in the period of the ninth five-year plan. The competitive power of the Corporation on market has been remarkably increased. Mr. Jiang Zemin, the General Secretary of CPC, gave praise to it saying "new scenes replacing the old" .
