Corba Compliant DSM Service

摘要

In this article we propose a new approach for building reliable and highly available distributed systems. The idea consists in combining existing DSM systems with Corba standard. DSM systems offer efficient and flexible replication capabilities while Corba platform is a popular and widely accepted environment for building distributed applications. The chief advantage of this approach is its efficiency. Transparent Corba replication forces the use of strict consistency model which tends to introduce substantial communication overhead. DSM systems are known for their relaxed consistency models, which require much less intensive communication. Our solution enables the use of most advanced consistency models which keep replicas consistent without overcharging the network. Thus, availability of Corba objects is greatly improved, including objects which are modified.
