The chemical binding of potentially toxic cyanide compounds in deposited blast furnace sludge was investigated in this study. A crystalline phase, K_2Zn_3[Fe(CN)_6]_2 x 9 H_2O, is identified by XRD and neutron diffraction analysis. This phase contains most likely the largest portion of cyanides in the samples. In this study also the scales of this environmental problem are visualised ranging from about 10~3 ― 10~(-7) m~2.
