Lead-slag blocks and gypsum mortar, characteristic historical building materials in the western Harz area, Germany

摘要

Lead-slag blocks, cast in iron forms, were utilised as major building material in the mining towns of the western Harz Mountains during a few decades in the mid-19th century. Gypsum mortar, a traditional binding material in various gypsiferous regions of the world, has been successfully applied for many purposes in the larger Harz region for more than 1000 years.
