摘要

The SINTER NEtwork has been established to assess the medium / long-term innovation potential of nuclear technology with respect to sustainability, public acceptance and economics. It is a Concerted Action under the 4th European R&D Framework Programme (Contract NO. FI4I-CT96-0013) with twelve partners from European Research orgainsations, universities and utilities. The network allowed for interdisciplinary and inter-organisational information exchange for identifying a consensus on the main stream for innovation. Furthermore, there was close interaction with the industrial MICHELANGELO initiative to harmonise the recommendations on R&D priorities. The SINTER programme follows a 'Dual Approach' in analysing the R&D requirements on the one side for correlation with the R&D potentials on the other. The project should help to define a consensual long-term European R&D strategy to respond to the present obtacles to fthe future use of nuclear energy in Europe.
