Report on neri research project to reduce capital costs and plant construction time for future nuclear power plants

摘要

This paper describes the major goals, objectives and the research plan that a combined team of industry, university, and national laboratory personnel will be pursuing to achieve substantial reductions in the capital cost and overall delivery time for new nuclear power plants. The project team, led by Duk eEngineering & Services (DE&S) and in collaboration with Sandia National Laboratory (SNL), ABB-Combustion Engineering Nuclear Power (ABB-CENP), the Massachusetts INstitute of Technology (MIT) and the North Carolina State University (NCSU) have proposed to pursue the development of innovative technologies to reduce design, fabrication and construction costs for future nuclear plants. The research has been sponsored by the Department of Energy with a three-year duration that commenced in September of 1999. Due to the timing of this research coupled with the ICONE-8 Conforence, the paper will focus on the areas for investigation and research methodologies being employed.
