摘要

A project, funded in part by the European Commission, has dealt with the costs and durability of SOFC stack components, cells and stacks. Cells showed low performance losses during thermal cycling (0.01% per cycle) and the degradation rate was below 1% per 1000h up to 300 mA/cm~2. The current density and the fuel utilisation (and thereby the water content) was found to be more important for the durability than the operating temperature. The contact between the cell and the metallic interconnect was examined and improvements of the contact resistance were made. Cost calculations showed that the objectives of the project were insufficient for a commercialisation of the SOFC technology. The degradation rate should be lowered to 0.5% per 1000h, or better, and the power density should be raised. In general, it was concluded that degradation tests should be done over long periods (in excess of 1000 h).
