Optimum Sizing of a photovoltaic system, particularly in the stand-alone applications is an important part of a system design. Since the capital equipment cost is the major component of the price of solar electricity, over-sizing the system has a very detrimental effect on the price of the generated power. Under-sizing a stand-alone system, on the other hand, reduces the supply reliability. in many applications of photovoltaic today, reliability of supply is an important factor. The optimum sizing of a photovoltaic system requires a knowledge of the solar radiation data for the site, the load profile, and the importance of supply continuity. One of the objectives of this paper is to present the sizing procedure of photovoltaic battery energy systems mainly based on energy balance of a particular application.
