Renewable energy in asia: a technology and policy review

Several Asian Countries have made significant progress in promoting Renewable Energy Technologies (RETs). Mature RETs such as wind generators, small hydro turbines, baggasse based co-generation, and biomass gasifiers are supplying utility power in Asia. Besides, RETs often offer the most appropriate option of providing energy services in rural/remote areas. However, before full commercialisation of RETs can be achieved, many barriers need to be removed and this calls for adequate policy measures in the countries. Most of the countries in Asia still lack adequate policy framework required to promote renewable energy.
