Micro-mechanical models for turbine blade design need to characterise the anisotropy of single crystal deformation. For the temperatures at which turbine blades operate the gamma'-precipitates within the gamma-matrix are known to directionally coarsen. This coarsening depends on the effective internal stresses within the microstructure, which is affected by the geometry of the precipitate morphology in relation to the applied stresses.
