The adsorption characteristic of powdered Activated carbon is studied by comparing mathematical models and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) models with actural test results obtianed from a large-scale test rig. The mathematical model used the heat transfer analogy and orthogonal coolocation used for larger particles to simulate the mass transfer within the fine powder. As with any gas cleaning system, the residence time of the power is found to be crucial. It was also found that the higher the temperature is, the quicker it will adsorb but with less efficency (lower loading). Smaller particles also found to adsorb more rapidly than the larger ones.
