High performance insulating refractories are demanded by the hgih temperature pocess industries, to confine heat to achieve safer and tolerable working environments. to protect proximate structures and equipment, and tolerable working environments, to protect proximate structures and equipment, and to maximize energy efficiency. Many of the currently used insulating systems were developed during the second half of the 20~th century, such that the choice and performance range of these materials is considerable.
