The Flux-Assisted Tungsten Inert Gas (FASTIG) welding process is an autogenous procedure that is implemented in a single weld pass. FASTIG welding requires neither a machined end weld prep, consumable inserts, nor weld filler material. As a result of these features, a FASTIG full penetration weld produces a differnet geometric profile than that of a conventional multipass Gas Tungsten Arc (GTA) weld. The effective utilization of the FASTIG process for joining stainless stee pipe sections requires an assessmentof the fatigue performance of FASTIG girth butt welds relative to that of GTA girth welds.
